Suicide in the Military

Study Looks at Increase in Soldier Suicide

The National Institute of Mental Health announced recently that a new study is being prepared to look into causes for the increases in suicides among soldiers.   The study will collect data  from Army active duty, National Guard and Army Reserves personnel over the next five years.  However, researchers are expected to quickly identify and report on potential risk factors to help the Army prevent suicide.... New Resources and Support for Military Wives

The ‘Her War’ podcast,  part of The Courage Community, focuses on voices from the homefront, and helps military wives conquer anxiety and depression. ‘Her War’ is hosted by Melissa Seligman, an Army wife, author, and mother of two young children, and co-host Chris Piper, an Army wife, mother, and former FRG leader. Recent topics have included a series on how the five stages of grief are part of a deployment. ‘ Her War’ also has a discussion forum for military wives to share stories and support each other. More on PTSD - New Trauma Court Opening

Army Spc. Thomas Delgado saved lives as a combat medic, then returned home to help train new troops.  Now, he’s accused of attempting to kill his wife.  As CNN reported recently:

“Delgado’s case may become one of the first to be heard at a soon-to-be-opened special veterans’ trauma court in Colorado, if the family gets its way. The court was created to get professional medical care for military veterans suffering from trauma-related disorders who are accused of crimes. An estimated 20 percent of Iraq war veterans suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder….... Read more here
