A great woman passed away this morning, with the death, at age 88, of Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

Mrs. Shriver worked tirelessly throughout her lifetime for the rights of persons with developmental disabilities. As columnist Colman McCarthy wrote a few years ago in the National Catholic Reporter, “What began in the spring of 1962, when Eunice Shriver invited a few children with Down syndrome to meet and compete on her front lawn, is now the world’s largest sports program, one involving several million athletes and coaches.”...
