Buses to Walter Reed/Bethesda
Posted by Chaplain Campbell. Filed in Uncategorized |Last weekend while my wife and I were returning from a quick shopping trip we saw some flashing lights on the other side of the freeway. Not from a police car or a fire truck. The flashing lights were from large “Am Buses” transporting our wounded warriors to Walter Reed Army Medical Center and National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda. They normally arrive by air evac at Andrews AFB, then are transported on to Reed/Bethesda, or head to local or VA care near their homes.
I have to admit thinking, “Why them and not me?” Why should I be so blessed to have good health and be able to take shopping trips and enjoy my family when these brave young service members have given so much?
While I keep pondering that question, one thing does enter my mind: whatever the reason, I must use the opportunities of health, life, and strength to serve well. Just like ancient Job, subject of the Bible’s Book of Job, the answer to “why” isn’t forthcoming, but the response does come into view. Only faithful service makes sense (I would add, to God first of all). If you have ability (mixed with opportunity), use it!
Let’s all make this day count! Our struggles may not include an Am Bus, but they are real and we must make today matter!
