Are you in favor of sending more US troops to Afghanistan?

What do you think? And why?

It’s about time we are going to try to handle Afghanistan properly. I am support of the mission in Iraq. Our soldiers are making life better for MANY people, and the possibility of a functioning Islamic democracy is …. just WOW … But, we never should have been there. People from Afghanistan attacked us, that is where we should have invaded. I can’t believe the short-sidedness of those who want to pull out of Afghanistan. Great idea, so my aspiring soldier can follow her father’s footsteps & fight in that mountain-laden land in 15-20yrs

It seems that many don’t understand the difference between the conflict in Afghanistan and the one in Iraq. What do you see as the greatest need in our Afghanistan situation?

As a nurse who sees many soldiers on their path of healing over the last 3.5 months, I can honestly say I have never met a soldier or airmen who wanted to go home or who wanted to escape their tour in Afghanistan. They are proud and loyal to their fellow war-fighters. They beg to be sent back to help them, to help the Afghan people, to make the country a safer place. That gets my vote for sending more people to Afghanistan to flush out the Taliban and support our troops here. I would certainly hope for American support as well!

Thanks for the word from Afghanistan! Great to hear about the outlook/morale of our GIs in country.

HI there: I am nervous about sending more troops to Afghan…. as my daughter is being deployed there next month. We are Roman Catholics, are there priests attached to companies/brigades for saying mass etc.?

I hope Pres. Obama agrees to more troops so we can get the job done properly and get t his country stable!

  6. Comment by Chaplain Campbell:

Yes, there are priest chaplains deployed to Afghanistan … I can’t tell you any specifics about your daughter’s unit or place of service in Afghanistan, but the chaplaincy makes priestly support a high priority. One of our struggles is not having enough priests. There is a generally understood shortage of priests in the US, and then they must be endorsed for military service by their bishops or religious superiors. Sometimes the bishops/superiors want them back after a short period of service. I will pray for your daughter, her safety, and the meeting of her religious needs.

Here at Bagram we have 2 Catholic Priests, both very dynamic at sharing the Liturgy of the Word & Eucharist as well as ministering to our daily deployed needs. Our Army Priest travels to smaller FOBs to minister there as well. If you know where she will be stationed, I can ask our Priest as I’m sure he would know the answer. May God bless your daughter and you during this deployment.

The Bible states that the middle east will never stop fighting and get along until they are all standing in the Great Judgement Hall and the Book of Life is opened, then they will stand as the names are read off. Those in Washington are making policies that we as soldiers are paying for with our lives and all they can say to us is “You Volinteered”. Yes this is true, but we have never been at war for so long and the volinteers are being laid to rest every day while everyone else is going about their ways wringing their hands and sayine “We support Our Troop” just so long as they don’t have to be standing shouldier to shoulder with us and put their lives and freedom on the line. No Greater Love hath no man that he lay down his life….. I/We have been loving this country and my fellow man for the past eighteen years, it has robbed me of my family and my health, it is time for the other guy to man up, pick up a weapon and stand a post.

Honesty. That is what we need to look at on Afghanistan. Just like Iraq we will continue to pump money into the country to solve it’s issues. The philosophy of counter insurgency is to pay the would be terroist with jobs so that they dont stay terrorist i.e., the Sons of Iraq program. It is a great theory but when we turn it over to the Afghan goverment what then. A country that is poor already and has been for years will continue to be that way when we are finished.Do you honestly think things wont go back to the way they were before. During my last deployment as soon as the Iraq goverment took control of the SoI program pay problems arose immediately and problems slowly begun to arise again. Maybe I am just bitter. The Afghan people and those of Iraq have lived a certain way for thousands of years. If we are truly worried about Al Qaeda what about Somalia, Egypt, Iran, and many others that we know to harbor and allow Al Qaeda to train and live. Either its all or nothing. How about we fix our economy and then worry about others. I have lost alot because of multiple deployments and I am in no way saying I dont love my country or the military but at some point and time enough is enough. Soldiers are tired and strung out, about the time you get some stability it is time to go again and again and again. I am just saying maybe us as a country should relook at things. How about get the perspective of those that are lower enlisted instead of all the brass. Get the real feelings of some Soldiers not just the ones that are good press for the American people.
