While there is a great deal of research on the effects of deployment on service members themselves, there have not been many studies that looked at how having a parent deployed during wartime affects children.

A study recently released by the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics shows that military children are two-and-a-half times more likely to develop psychological problems than American children in general.

This stress, compounded by multiple deployments as well as frequent moves, takes a toll on these children.  The American Academy of Pediatrics agrees that the effects of deployment on children are only beginning to emerge.
