Living Strong
Posted by Guest. Filed in Life Lessons, News |If you follow the world of sports, you must know that Lance Armstrong is back racing in the Tour de France. After a three-year break, Armstrong, who’s already won the Tour a record-breaking seven times, decided to get back on his bike to help raise awareness of cancer. Go to Military OneSource to learn about cancer treatment options available to service members.
Armstrong’s story is incredible. As a very young man just starting in bicycle racing, he was diagnosed with aggressive cancer which had spread to his brain. Doctors gave him less than 50 percent chance of survival. Not only did he survive the brutal surgeries and chemo, he became a national hero when he won his first Tour de France in 1999.
The Lance Armstrong Foundation has raised more than $250 million for the fight against cancer. Armstrong is committed to empowering cancer patients, helping them understand what to expect as they battle their disease.
The slogan of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, LiveStrong, appears on millions of yellow bracelets around the world. Through his determination and energy, Armstrong is teaching us all how to live our lives: strong, focused, dedicated to helping others.
Prayer: Lord, Help us to meet our challenges head on, with strength and dignity. Bring healing and comfort to all who suffer with cancer or other life-threatening illness. We lift up our weaknesses to you, and ask that you fill us with Your power to live strong and filled with faith in You. Amen.
